Recommended recipes for a happy feather:
"Flock Haven's Layered Salad"
Alter recipe amounts to suit your flock size. Be sure to wash everything well and use organic if available.
1/2 cup Broccoli Slaw
1/2 cup Collards, Kale or Greens in season
1/2 cup chopped Green Beans
1/4 cup chopped Carrots
1/4 cup
chopped Apple
1/4 cup chopped Pear
1/4 cup chopped Almond, Walnuts or other nuts in season.
Mix together and seperate 7 days worth in to 7 containers. Use one container per day to feed the flock.
When feeding add cut/chopped, Baked Sweet Potatoes/Yams, Squash, Banana, Kiwi and whatever else you may find as far as fruits and veggies, Birdie Bread, Oranges, Garlic, Pasta, Rice, Grains in any combination changing up every week to give your feathers variety.
We find that some weeks they will eat certain things then other weeks they will not. We never stop feeding anything healthy just because it gets left behind a few times.
Never stop trying when it comes to getting your feather to eat healthy.
When a new parrot comes in that has never eaten healthy, we try many things. Take out most of the pellets as we always switch from seeds to pellets immediately. Try adding a small amount of pellets to the salad to let them know that this is food. They may not even associate the salad as food because they have never seen it.
We have had success with every feather that has entered our Haven including the smallest of feathers, Lovebirds, Tiels, Parrotlets, Parakeets.
